What is happening?

Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) are currently in the process of negotiating their contract.

Since the deadline to reach an agreement has passed, the CUPW has initiated a strike action on Friday, May 23rd.

Please note Courier Economy, Purolator and UPS are not currently affected.

What is the current status?

At the moment, the strike is not a total strike like the one this past winter. This is not a rotating strike like in the past either.

Canada Post continues to operate and process & deliver mail and parcels. However, CUPW has banned Canada Post employees to work any overtime, so it may take slightly longer than expected to have your packages delivered.

We had paused Canada Post shipment for the most part since the strike began. We've shipped several shipments out with them during this time and the delivery times weren't anything out of the ordinary. It appears that the overtime ban hasn't affected the delivery times too much.

So we're reinstating Lettermail and Canada Post tracked shipping methods for all orders.

We will continue to divert as many Canada Post packages to Purolator as possible. We will still ship via Canada Post in certain situations, such as the under $5 Expedited Parcel for small packages within the GTA.

Lettermail is still suspended on our site for the time being, replaced by the new subsidized Courier Economy shipping method for Lettermail size orders.

Purolator Ground and Purolator Express added

We've added Purolator Ground and Express as additional shipping methods during checkout. They are almost identical to Canada Post Expedited Parcel and Xpresspost, respectively, in terms of price and delivery standards.

Purolator Express allows keyboards with lithium-ion batteries inside, unlike Xpresspost.

These are different than the Purolator option we had in the past. These two new services will show you the exact shipping rate based on the contents of your cart.

Canada Post Expedited Parcel, Xpresspost & Priority temporarily suspended

We have disabled all Canada Post shipping methods until a labor agreement is reached.

We enabled Canada Post as an option during checkout again since Sebas is in group buy right now. By the time those orders ship, it's almost certain that Canada Post will not be on strike.

Purolator shipping methods still qualify for a 50% discount on in-stock orders of $170 CAD or more.

Lettermail replacement

Lettermail shipping method has been reinstated. Please keep in mind it may take slightly longer than usual.

We've suspended the Lettermail shipping method until a labor agreement is reached. Any pending Lettermail order will be upgraded to Courier Economy for free.

If the items in your order qualify for Lettermail, you will now see a  Courier Economy Reduced Rate shipping method instead that's partially subsidized by us. It'll cost anywhere between $3.45 to $4.45 CAD depending on your location.

Please note Courier Economy doesn't have a reach as wide as Canada Post, so it may not be possible to ship to some addresses using this shipping method. We'll reach out to you if your address is one of them.
