Bullet points
- Items are shipped in a padded envelope via Canada Post untracked Lettermail.
- Not all items can be shipped via Lettermail. See below for a list of eligible items
- No tracking. You will get a video confirmation of shipment. Videos will no longer be provided, but a photo will be available upon request.
- No refunds on lost packages. Please choose another shipping method if you are not comfortable with that. As of December 22nd, 2020, only 2 out of 78 packages have been lost, and both during the Christmas rush.
What is Lettermail shipping
Parcel rates to anywhere within Canada start at $9. Sometimes that's a lot of money to spend in shipping when you want just a few mill max sockets or a set of stabilizers.
That's why Mech.land offers Lettermail shipping via Canada Post. Your items are packed in a stamped bubble mailer and dropped off at a mailbox. It's the same shipping method in which your receive letters, flyers etc. Just like unregistered letters, there is no tracking or delivery confirmation available for lettermail packages.
The prices start at $2.50 to anywhere in Canada, and usually that's enough for a few hundred sockets or a couple of sets of stabilizers.
Is there any tracking or shipping confirmation?
Just like regular letters, there is no tracking or delivery confirmation available for lettermail packages.
You will receive a video of your stamped package being dropped off at a Canada Post mailbox as confirmation of shipment.
As of December 1st, 2021, we will no longer be adding a video of your package being dropped off with each shipment confirmation. We have shipped and submitted video confirmations of hundreds of Lettermail shipments in the past year. As the volume continues to grow, it's simply not feasable to continue doing so considering the amount of time the whole process takes.
We'll be snapping a photo of your package being dropped off instead. This photo will not be sent to you when mark the order as shipped, but you can always request it via email should you choose to.
How long does it take to arrive?
Anywhere between 3 days to 5 weeks. There's no way to predict how long it might take even when taking geography into equation.
What happens when a package doesn't arrive?
Unfortunately that is the risk you take while saving money by using the Lettermail shipping method. There's no tracking, delivery confirmation or built in insurance in this method for Mech.land to follow up with the post office to try and recover the package.
As such there will be no refunds for lost packages. Please choose any other methods if you would like purchase protection.
I try my best to pack the items as secure as possible. As of December 22nd, 2020, only 2 out of 78 packages have been lost, and both were lost during the Christmas rush. Hopefully that's just a Holiday anomaly. If a significant amount of packages start getting lost I will discontinue this shipping method.
